Drying uses heat and time to remove moisture already absorbed by the filament. Dry storage slows down new moisture absorption in a sealed bag or box with active desiccant. Silica gel alone will not quickly dry an already wet spool.
Normally use it immediately. Dry it later only if you see symptoms or the specific product note tells you to.
The print may succeed without drying, but drying gives a more consistent surface and more reliable result.
Plan to dry the filament before printing. Without it, quality and layer strength are likely to be inconsistent.
Do not use a temperature that could soften the filament or spool. An ordinary kitchen oven can fluctuate significantly. The instructions for the specific product and drying device always take priority over this general workflow.
