Quick answer for beginners

Start with PLA or PETG. They work with most open-frame 1.75 mm filament printers and do not require a hardened nozzle or actively heated chamber. Always check the requirements of the specific product before buying.

Before buying

Are your printer and filament compatible?

Every filament product page uses the same four indicators. They show what your printer must support and whether the spool should be dried before printing.

Hardened nozzle

Required for abrasive carbon- or glass-fibre-filled materials.

Enclosed printer

An enclosure keeps the print area more stable and reduces draughts.

Heated chamber

The printer actively heats the chamber to a set temperature; this is more demanding than a simple enclosure.

Drying

The product page shows whether drying is needed, together with the temperature and time.

A good starting point

Two straightforward first choices

“For beginners” does not mean that a material automatically suits every printer or project. Always check the requirements of the specific product before buying.

The easiest

PLA

Good for prototypes, decorative parts and ordinary indoor use. It normally does not require an enclosed printer or drying before first use.

Before starting

A six-point first-print check

  • Check the filament diameter — usually 1.75 mm.
  • Select the correct material profile in your slicer.
  • Use the nozzle, bed and speed starting settings from the product page.
  • Dry the filament if the product page recommends or requires it.
  • Clean and level the print bed according to the printer manual.
  • Watch the first layer and the first 10–15 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers before buying

Will this filament work with my printer?
Check the filament diameter and the four requirements on the product page: hardened nozzle, enclosed printer, heated chamber and drying. A printer-model filter will be added later; for now, the product’s own requirements are the most accurate source.
What do the green, amber and red statuses mean?
Green “Not needed” means there is no extra requirement. Amber “Recommended” improves the chance of success or the quality. Red “Required” means that a safe and reliable result is unlikely without it.
Does new filament always need drying?
No. Check the drying status of the specific product. Sealed packaging does not always guarantee perfect dryness, but with PLA it is usually enough to watch for symptoms. TPU, PA and some technical materials should generally be dried before printing.
Which printing settings should I use?
Start with the slicer’s manufacturer or material profile and use the nozzle, bed and speed ranges shown on the product page. They are a starting point, not a promise that one setting will work for every printer and part.
What if the first print fails?
Stop the print if the first layer does not stick or material collects around the nozzle. Take a photo and note the printer, material and settings, then ask us for advice — this makes the cause much easier to narrow down.
